Montana Grizzy Soccer Lands Huge-Name Home Opponent For August
If you're looking to schedule an opponent from a university with a lot of name recognition, this definitely gets the job done.
Sure, it's much easier to get on the schedules of big-name opponents at their home venues. But, University of Montana Women's Sports Information Director Joel Carlson tells us that the Griz soccer team's non-conference schedule will be highlighted by a visit from the Ohio State Buckeyes of the Big 10 Conference.
A Sunday evening match hosting the Buckeyes in late-August, with UM students back in Missoula in preparation for classes starting the next day could be the key ingredients for (dare we say it?) a record soccer crowd at South Campus Stadium. Given that there have been only two matches in program history that have drawn crowds larger than 1,000, Ohio State has the feel of a potential record-breaker.
Griz head coach Chris Citowicki agrees, saying, "It's a big deal. It would be fun to get one of the biggest crowds this program has ever had. I'm so excited to bring in a team of that caliber to play in Missoula."
Ohio State will be in Missoula on Sunday, Aug. 27. The Buckeyes have played in 16 of the last 21 NCAA tournaments and last season advanced to the round of 32. Last season, OSU went 11-6-3 overall and 5-3-2 in conference play.
Montana's non-conference home schedule also features matches against Air Force (free exhibition match), Colorado State, Miami Ohio and Georgia Southern. Hey maybe it's not too early to be thinking about tickets? You can check out the entire 2023 schedule and get more ticket info here.
