How to Get a “Charge” at Glacier National Park
It's getting a little less nerve-wracking for electric vehicle owners to tour Glacier National Park.
The park is announcing this week that a new level 2 charger for public use has been installed.
But even with that upgrade, tourists traveling by EV had still better plan ahead, faced with few available chargers to share, and long drives back to a plug if they can't stop. Especially if they're on the east side of the park.

Where are electric car chargers located in Glacier?
The new charger GNP installed at the end of September is in the parking lot at the Apgar Visitors Center, just up the road from the park entrance at West Glacier. That means you have to pass the entrance gate, but it's outside of the vehicle "reservation zone" on Going-to-the-Sun Road.
The new charger is free, thanks to the support from Glacier National Park Conservancy donors. However, there is a two-hour limit on plugging into the charger, although that should be enough to get you back to Kalispell.
That makes two EV chargers operated by the park. The first was installed at the St. Mary Visitor Center and became operational in July 2023.

The first charger is nearly a decade old
The first EV charger at Glacier was actually installed as part of a new contract with Xanterra and has been available at Lake McDonald Lodge since 2016.
Outside the park, the nearest chargers are a Tesla charging station on 1380 Wisconsin Avenue, one of several locations in Whitefish and a ChargePoint charging station at 2955 Highway 93 south, one of several in Kalispell.
