Yeah, baby! We're so back! We've got a full opening date for Glacier National Park's Going-to-the-Sun Road, and it's right around the corner.

Going-to-the-Sun Road to Open on Monday, June 22

The National Park Service announced via a news release that the full length of Going-to-the-Sun Road will open for the summer on Monday, June 22.

That's for motorized vehicles. The full length of the road actually opened on Thursday, June 18, for bicyclists.

Bicyclists can bike the full length of Going-to-the-Sun Road beginning today, June 18 and extending through June 21, before the road opens to vehicle traffic. As we prepare for opening, bicyclists should watch for administrative traffic beyond the vehicle closure, especially on Thursday and Friday, June 18–19. - Glacier National Park's Facebook
Dates are always subject to change. You never know when we'll get hit with a random summer blizzard that closes some of the road, so be aware that this is a projected date.

2026 Glacier National Park Changes

It feels like a good time to remind folks of some of this year's changes.

The big one is no vehicle reservations in 2026. The park has implemented reservations over the last few years to limit traffic, but they're removing it this year. I still highly recommend you get there early, because who knows how long the lines to the park will be.

This year also introduces a three-hour parking limit at Logan Pass. The three-hour parking limit takes effect July 1.

Finally, the Park will be offering a new ticketed shuttle service for "hikers of the Highline Trail and visitors who want a longer stay at Logan Pass."
