Dominant Montana Grizzly Defense Chops Up Lumberjacks
The Montana Grizzly defense set the bar extremely high for themselves, not giving up a point in 7 consecutive quarters of play.
But the Griz punt return team and offense helped turned things sour early in the third quarter. Could the Montana defense rise up enough to get us through the crises?
With a 13-0 lead going into the third quarter, a muffed punt set up the Northern Arizona Lumberjacks at the Griz 30. The Montana defense held the 'Jacks to a field goal (13-3). On the next possession, Montana quarterback Cam Humphrey is intercepted and it's returned all the way to the 24. The defense rises up again with an interception of their own.
So, where is all this going to lead? Things got a little nerve wracking through the first 10 minutes of the second half. That's when the Montana defense rises up again, forcing a fumble that is returned for a touchdown.
While Montana's offense was less than inspiring much of the game, they had just enough to go along with that stellar defensive unit's two-touchdown effort. And the Griz get out of Flagstaff with a 30-3 victory this afternoon over the Lumberjacks to improve to 8-2, with most assuredly a playoff berth now locked up.
So, it's on to the Brawl of the Wild, as the Montana State Bobcats, who survived a scare in Bozeman against Idaho this afternoon, winning 20-13, come to Washington Grizzly Stadium for a noon kickoff next Saturday, November 20.
Here's to an exciting Saturday with more Grizzly D awesomeness!
