New Years Eve is a celebration of all things that were accomplished in the past year and dream about what can come in the upcoming 365 days. In Missoula there is no question as to what the biggest and best event is on New Years Eve. It sells out the historic Wilma theatre year after year and the crowd is always loud and cheering the entire time. This year the event  has changed it's name to "First Night Spotlight" and is set to be the best show the Wilma has ever seen!

First Night Spotlight consists of  talented high school students around Western Montana singing songs that they love and some of which they create them selves. However, not every student who wants to participate actually gets the chance. Before the big event the students have to go through preliminary rounds where they have to show how great they are for the chance to perform at the Wilma. The judges then have the difficult job to pick the best of the best to move on for the big show. The judges are evaluating each performer on voice quality, song choice, stage presence, audience engagement, choreography, and costume choice. The talent this year is at an all time high and the variety of songs that are being used will make any music lover overjoyed with this years competition.

First Night Missoula consists of over 80+ events in 30 venues around town. First Night Spotlight is the biggest and best event of the night. To join in on First Night Missoula you will need to purchase a "First Night Button" for $15 from the Missoula Cultural Council. If you want to join in on First Night Spotlight that will cost you an extra couple dollars at the door but is well worth the money. After seeing the talent at this years preliminary events this will be a show that you will be talking about until 2016.

If you want to see how talented the performers will be, here is a video of last years winner Anna Stevenson from Hellgate High School.
