Victory! Hamilton Defeats Laurel for State A Championship
The winds were gusting over 20 miles an hour as the Hamilton Broncs met and conquered the Laurel Locomotives at Laurel's home field for the 2021 State Class A Football Championship. The final score was Hamilton 21 Laurel 7.
In the first quarter, Hamilton quarterback Tyson Rostad found the wind interfering with his passing attack, so the run game was emphasized and Tim Zohner was among the Broncs that made great advances in the championship football game. Both teams had impressive defensive plays, keeping the score low in the final game of the season.
Rostad made the first score of the game on a keeper and Tyler Jones kicked the extra point. That was the only score in the first quarter. In the second period, Laurel scored on a 3-yard run with a successful PAT to tie the game. But a 35-yard run by Rostad brought the Broncs back on top and Jones kicked the PAT. At the half, Hamilton led 14 to 7. But Rostad, who is going to be University of Montana Grizzly next year, wasn't done yet.
The third quarter was again a defensive showcase and neither team found their way over the goal line. The final period saw Rostad score again with seven minutes left and another Jones extra point, bringing the score to Hamilton 21 Laurel 7. With five minutes left, Rostad, who also plays defense, intercepted Laurel and the Broncs maintained possession of the ball for the rest of the game and won the Championship. Final score Hamilton 21 Laurel 7. Congratulations to the 2021 Hamilton Bronc football team - State Champions!
