Over the weekend, The Hamilton Bronc and Florence-Carlton Falcon football teams advanced to semi-final action in the State Class A and B Championship series. But the Bitterroot Valley high school volleyball teams did well, too.

Three volleyball teams from the valley - Hamilton, Corvallis and Florence-Carlton are headed to the All-Class State Volleyball Tournament at the Brick Breeden Fieldhouse. The top five Class A teams from this past weekend's Divisional in Ronan "punched their tickets" to the huge tournament. Polson took first place, Ronan was second, Corvallis was third, Dillon in fourth place and Hamilton placed fifth. Stevensville was defeated in the double-elimination weekend.

That sets the Class A volleyball first round in Bozeman Thursday, starting at 8 a.m., with Hamilton against Miles City (coincidence with the past weekend's football game?). Then, Dillon takes on Billings Central, with Ronan against Havre at noon and Corvallis in the 2 p.m. game against Hardin. Polson will end the day with a game against the winner of the Hamilton-Miles City matchup. Meanwhile, Florence-Carlton will be in the Class B volleyball competition at MSU with a 4 p.m. game against Glasgow on Thursday.

And, the two football teams are hosting their semi-final games this Saturday - Hamilton against Lewistown, with the winner going up against whoever wins the Laurel-Polson semi-final. And KLYQ will carry the Bronc play-by-play at 1240 AM and on www.klyq.com at 1 p.m. At the same time, Florence-Carlton will play Jefferson County, also at 1 p.m., with the winner taking on the winner of the Bigfork-Eureka game. In Missoula Saturday evening, a post-season AA football game pits Missoula Sentinel against Kalispell Glacier at 7 p.m. So, indoors or outdoors, follow the bouncing ball!
