Smithsonian Exhibit at Ravalli County Museum – ‘Outbreak’

An exhibit that looks closely - very closely - at disease-causing pathogens is in the main display area of the Ravalli County Museum this summer. "Outbreak: Epidemics in a Connected World" was brought to Hamilton with the help of Rocky Mountain Laboratories and the American Society of Microbiology. The display includes videos of researchers, full-size suits used by scientists working with dangerous materials and even large 3-D images of pathogens (see photo below). The 3-D glasses bring you face-to-face with microscopic photos of dangerous materials.

Added to the display will be free public lectures from researchers. The first is this Thursday, May 30, at 6 p.m. with Byron Caughey, Ph.D., of Rocky Mountain Laboratories. His topic - Corrupted Proteins as Pathogens: From Chronic Wasting Disease, Mad Cows and Cannibals to Alzheimer's and Parkinson's Diseases." Dr. Dan Lucey, who developed the exhibit, will talk June 27th and Tom Schwan of Rocky Mountain Labs will talk about ticks July 25. The exhibit will be on display until July 27.
