Every town is different. It doesn't matter if you live in Montana, or somewhere else, every town is different. When you live in a place long enough, you get to understand and maybe even appreciate the differences that make your town unique. Missoula is different kind of town. Some of us are very proud of the differences. Even though some of the things that make us different are not all positive, they are just different. I recently asked our listeners on Facebook to "Tell me you're in Missoula, without telling me you're in Missoula." Here are some of the things that help keep Missoula unique.

Some Use Locations To Let People Know

A person can always use specific landmarks in Missoula to let people know where you are. Downtown has a lot, including the giant red x's art installation.

Missoula's Food Scene

Food is always a good way to let people know you are in Missoula. There are few dishes that specific to our town, and help make us who we are. Brains and Eggs at the Oxford is a right of passage in Missoula. I was happy to see Hoagieville Cheese Fries as a response, I lived on those and Cherry Coke, when I was in high school.

We Love Our Griz

Nothing says Missoula, like the University of Montana Grizzlies!

Places That Don't Exist Anymore

There are always places that are near and dear to our hearts in Missoula that are no longer around. There can be an argument that "Malfunction Junction" really never went away, just rerouted.

North Reserve Is Famous By Itself

If you use North Reserve much at all you know it can be congested, to say the least. Not only is there a lot of traffic, but there are stores, restaurants, and more. Someone even mentioned the unique smell that North Reserve has when the wind changes direction just right, the argument as to who is responsible for the smell has raged on for years.

A Nickname Can Be Enough

Missoula is also nicknamed "Zootown", even though we don't have a zoo. As far as I know we there is only one "Zootown" in Montana, so that is enough.
