Another Windy Night In The Forecast For Missoula, Western Montana
After last night's insane severe thunderstorm that brought winds as high as 109 mph at the top of Mount Sentinel, we hoped it would be a relatively calm Thursday night. And although the forecast isn't calling for 109 mph, we are in line for another blustery evening.
According to the National Weather Service Missoula forecast winds are expected to rise to 16-20 mph through Thursday evening and robust wind gusts as high as 31mph.
The wind is already picking up as I write this Thursday afternoon and by the looks of the chart above it will last until 9 pm tonight.
A Red Flag Warning is also in effect by the National Weather Service for Missoula, MT until 9 pm Thursday. "The combination of low humidity and thunderstorm outflow winds will result in critical fire weather conditions, increasing the risk for new and existing fires to spread quickly."
Overnight, temps will drop to the upper 40s in Missoula. Friday evening is forecast to see winds in the 15-16 mph range with gusts as high as 23 mph. This weekend, temperatures will be in the mid to upper 80s under sunny skies with a windy Friday and a calmer Saturday and Sunday.
