The ever-unpredictable world of college athletics continues, with at least some optimism and much disappointment for Montana basketball fans.

Our thanks to Women's Sports Information Director Joel Carlson for officially informing that for now, the Montana basketball teams will start the upcoming season without fans for their home games at Dahlberg Arena. That stamp of approval was received this week from the Missoula City-County Health Department.

The Lady Griz are scheduled to host four games in Missoula in December, including their Big Sky Conference openers against Southern Utah on December 3rd and 5th. The Grizzly men's team is still finalizing their non-conference slate, are not currently scheduled to play at home until Dec. 31, when they host Northern Colorado.

The no-fans policy could change later in the season to reduced crowds based on guidance from the Missoula City-County Health Department.

University of Montana Athletics Director Kent Haslam was quoted as saying, “We appreciate the work of the Missoula City-County Health Department and are excited our student-athletes will once again compete in Missoula. Our student-athletes and coaches love playing in front of Griz fans. They are what make this place so special, and it will be strange playing without them in the building. But as we start back up again, it is best we do so without crowds for the time being."

Our Townsquare Media/Missoula family will continue to broadcast all Griz and Lady Griz basketball games. Griz games air on News Talk KGVO, FM 98.3 and AM 1290 and the "LISTEN NOW" button on newstalkkgvo.com.  Their first scheduled game is Saturday, November 29, at USC, with tip-off time yet to be announced.

The Lady Griz air on KMPT, FM 99.7 and AM 930 and the "LISTEN NOW" button on 930kmpt.com.  Their first scheduled game is this Wednesday, November 25, at Utah State, tip-off 2:00 p.m.
