Free Fishing for Father’s Day Weekend
Nothing says Father's Day like fishing with your old man in the Treasure State. This weekend, you can fish for free thanks to Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks.
Montana Fish and Wildlife officials are opening the state's lakes and rivers to free fishing during the Father's Day weekend.
"While many Montana anglers want to keep their favorite fishing hole a secret, one thing that isn't a secret is that our state is home to some of the best rivers, lakes, and streams for fishing in the world," said Montana Governor Steve Bullock . "I encourage Montanans to take advantage of this free fishing weekend, and maybe even show off their secret fishing spot to a child or grandchild."
Since 2011, anglers have been allowed to fish without a license on the Saturday and Sunday of Father's Day.
Bullock said the tradition is meant as a gift to dads and as a way for families to spend time together.
The Associated Press reports that even though a license isn't required, anglers must follow all of the state's other fishing rules.
