It looks like the green light has been given to AMC to allow texting during movies. I can see this being a debated topic for sure.

The reason the new head of AMC says the change would be good is to attract the younger crowd who tend to be on their phones a lot. Adam Aron says in an interview with Variety "When you tell a 22-year-old to turn off the phone, don’t ruin the movie, they hear please cut off your left arm above the elbow. You can’t tell a 22-year-old to turn off their cellphone. That’s not how they live their life". Not sure I agree with this statement. Mr. Aron is starting some controversy not only by allowing texting in theaters but also wanting to pave the way to allow movies to be released in homes same day as they hit theaters.

So there could be many changes down the line. AMC already acquired Carmike cinemas and looks to continue theater domination.
