A Missoula Favorite Returns to Caras Park

One of the “must-do” things to do each summer is the Symphony in the Park concert at Caras Park. It’s always impressive, spectacular, and downright fun. The upcoming show is particularly special as it’s the first in-person performance since the pandemic, (and with the second wave approaching, could be our only chance to see ‘em, honestly) and the introduction of the new Music Director. 

You'll recall that fan favorite Darko Butorac closed out his dozen years with the symphony in the spring of 2019. The process to replace him came down to 5 candidates, and Julia Tai, the first ever female Music Director of the Missoula Symphony, was chosen. She actually began her role last year with the symphony’s first-ever virtual season in response to COVID-19, so she's quite excited to experience Missoula and the arts community in person, sharing "I couldn’t be more thrilled to call Missoula my new home and celebrate life, music, and togetherness with you all." And we're equally excited to see her in action this season!

You can expect to hear favorites including “Orpheus in the Underworld,” “Gabriel’s Oboe,” featuring local oboist and Julliard student Evan Yonce, “Jurassic Park” and, in honor of next month's Guns n' Roses concert, “Sweet Child O’ Mine.” 

Catch the Caras Park concert on Sunday, August 8th at 7 p.m., it's FREE for all ages, but you are encouraged to bring canned goods and non-perishable food items to be donated to the Missoula Food Bank and Community Center. And, you'll want to get there early if you want a great seat, but no matter where you end up in the park, you're sure to be treated to a truly impressive live music event!
