I’m always looking for things to do on my days off in the summer. I hate lying around at home and trying to figure out what to do. All I want to do is get out and enjoy the sunshine and summertime while it’s here. To help those of you out who are like me, I’ve compiled a list of my favorite things to do outdoors in the summer.

    Play a game

Play your favorite game from childhood. It doesn’t matter what it is, just get out and do it. Nothing is off limits. Moon ball, dodge ball, baseball, basketball, badminton, volleyball and football are all great games. Just get out there and enjoy yourself.

    Go folfing

There are numerous frisbee golf (folf) courses in the mountains in and around Missoula. This is much harder and much more fun than it sounds. It’s a great way to get out and enjoy nature, get some exercise and have fun.

    Slip and slide

I know it’s supposed to be for kids, but there is nothing more fun than running as fast as you can and diving onto a cold slippery surface. If you want to make it a little competitive, you can always have a contest to see who can slide the farthest.

    Camp out

Spend a long weekend camping out in one of Montana’s many national parks. There’s nothing like getting away from the everyday mundane to help you relax and wish you never had to go back.

Float one of our many rivers, lakes or streams

Grab a tube, raft, canoe, kayak and your favorite swim suit and head for the nearest, or your favorite, body of water. You can enjoy your favorite beverages, fish, swim and even pull off on an island and barbecue during your float. It doesn’t matter where you float or what you do once you’re on the water, just get out on the water!

Hike to the top of a mountain

You can find numerous mountains and peaks to climb in and around Missoula. My family’s favorite hike is to the top of Sleeping Woman Trail just west of Missoula in Frenchtown.
