Yellowstone Bison Victim Shares Frightening Story

There are several instances where I have been critical of tourons screwing with nature. Whether it's getting too close to animals or interfering with the resplendent Grand Prismatic Spring, I have a short temper for folks who want to disrupt nature.

But the guy who had his world turned upside down, literally, by a bison last week is a different story. That guy was at a safe distance and admirably stepped in between the bison and his grandson.

CBS News followed up with Carl Isom-McDaniel, who broke his leg on the steep tumble, and he seems to be doing OK.

"We saw the bison, and he was down. He wasn't showing aggression or anything like that until it picked a target. That target happened to be me. - Isom-McDaniel via CBS News' Twitter

Isom-McDaniel broke his femur in several spots and is still recovering in Bozeman, according to CBS News.

A broken femur is brutal, but at least he's still around to tell the tale.
