It is clear that Montana is one of those states that,  when it comes to eating habits, is filled with people that consider themselves "meat and potato" people. I for one have always been easily won over by the offer of steak and potatoes, over anything else. Maybe it is my Irish heritage, or just being raised near Idaho, but I cannot live without potatoes. In fact, during one of my many attempts to diet in the past, the common denominator for cravings was always "spuds." There were times when I would crave French fries so much that I would gladly slap my own grandmother just to smell a plate of fresh fries.

But, what is Montana's favorite type of French fry? The folks at Zippia are at it again, and dug up search data to discover what each state's preferred fry is.

According to the Zippia website, here is how they came up with their answers.

Using Google Trends, we determined what type of fry each state eats a disproportionate amount of. We looked at nearly a dozen different types of fries. From there, we determined what type of fry is searched a disproportionately, high amount in each state.

Choices included everything from curly fries, cheese fries, chili cheese fries and even tater tots. What did Montana search for the most on Google? Montana, along with all of our neighboring states (Idaho, Wyoming, North Dakota) prefer the biproduct of the potato. Montana prefers TATER TOTS over all other forms of the fry. Which makes a lot of sense if you have ever chowed down on "potato oles" from Taco Johns.

I still feel that it would be a close race, if Missoulians had to choose between Potato Oles or Hoagieville Cheese Fries. But, we will save that debate for another day.
