Last Week I did a blog about Fish, Wildlife and Parks trapping and euthanizing five black bears in NW Montana near Heron. Residents complained that the bears were not intimidated by humans and someone was feeding them. In this case the feeding was intentional, sometimes it’s not. For example many of us like to put out birdfeeders, bears like those, especially this time of year as they get ready to hibernate.

Bears are also persistent when they find a regular food source. FW&P warden Dave Loewen tagged a bear in Helena the middle of last month and moved it to the Big Belt Mountains. Last Friday that same bear was back in Helena. It’s been trapped and moved again, this time to the South in the Elkhorn Mountains.  Persistent and great foragers…that’s a bear.
