Scary First Half Haunts Griz in Lopsided Loss
Even the most devoted, positive-thinking Weber State Wildcat fan could not have imagined this first-half scenario,
In a Halloween weekend nightmare, the Montana Grizzly football team found themselves buried 34-6 at halftime, thanks in part to two interceptions and a fumble. The Griz continued to turn the ball over in the second half, and even with some big plays and several scoring opportunities, Montana never gave themselves a chance, as they were humbled 41-27 Saturday afternoon in Ogden, Utah.
There was no quit in the Griz in the second half. Freshman quarterback Gresch Jensen ran for a touchdown, threw 81, 13 and 38 yard TD passes, but critical interceptions, including one for a touchdown, cast a spell on any comeback hopes. But the real disaster? Jensen is injured with just a few minutes to play. No word at this time on the severity of the injury, but the initial report was a head injury. Montana's third-string QB Caleb Hill finishes things out.
Montana's bewitching key statistic: five turnovers (three interceptions, two fumbles). Weber State: ZERO turnovers.
No magic today. And it doesn't get easier next Saturday as Northern Arizona comes to Missoula for a 3:30 kickoff. Keep the heads held high, Griz Nation. Scott Gurnsey and I will see you on the radio starting at 1:30 Saturday.
