The National Weather Service is calling for a storm system to move through Idaho and western Montana bringing strong winds, thunderstorms and rain.

Meteorologist Jeff Kitzmiller provides details about the storm

“Our next weather system gets here on Wednesday,” said Kitzmiller. “It seems like most people will get 40 to 50 mile per hour winds during Thursday. It’s coming in from the west and it will cruise through here and it’s a pretty strong cold front with a good warm-up ahead of it and cool down pretty quickly by the afternoon and evening when we’ll see those gusty winds.”

Kitzmiller said Wednesday will be an interesting day for weather.

“We’ll have rain we’ll have thunderstorms, so it’s a good mix of a lot of different weather happening on Wednesday,” he said. “There could be some isolated damage with some of the thunderstorms that could gust to over 50 miles per hour. Most people will get winds in the 40 miles per hour range which could bring some small branches down.”

Kitzmiller said there could be snow on high mountain passes.

“Snow levels will get pretty high early, so we’ll have a pretty good amount of rain here,” he said. “The snow will be up on the Continental Divide like Marias Pass near Glacier National Park, but even Marias Pass or Homestake Pass could see some snow.”
