New Park Along Clark Fork
This Wednesday, November 28 the Missoula Parks and Recreation Department wants to hear from city residents about Hellgate Park. Dave Shaw is the Parks and Trails Development Mgr. He said the master plan for Hellgate Park will define the community’s “vision” for the park and lay the groundwork for future park development. Neighbors currently use Hellgate Park for hiking, dog walking, running, cycling and river access, and they support development which will enhance the parks’ recreational uses and protect its’ natural resources. Because the park is located in the floodplain, it will be a minimally developed, “natural park” with native plant landscaping, walking paths and relatively few built amenities.
Hellgate Park, also known as Gateway Gardens, is located just west of the Cobblestone condominiums on East Broadway, about 1.1 miles east of Van Buren Street. Parks and Recreation and neighborhood representatives invite citizens to attend the Hellgate Park Planning Workshop from 5:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. on November 28 at the Montech Building, 1121 E. Broadway. A light supper will be served, and residents should plan to stay for the entire workshop in order to fully participate in the planning process.
