At around 12:00 a.m. on Sunday, Missoula police officers were dispatched to a downtown bar. According to Police Public Information Officer Travis Welsh, several people were involved in a disturbance.

“The officers arrived and made contact with a complainant who reported that she had recently been having trouble with some other girls,” Welsh said. “Her parents were visiting and they decided to go out for the evening. While inside a downtown bar, these same girls were also present. An argument ensued to the point where one of the other girls was actually kicked out of the bar.”

The complaint and her parents eventually went outside. They were approached by friends of the girl who was originally kicked out of the bar and an incident occurred.

“One of them began assaulting her father,” Welsh said. “The man forced the father to the ground, pinned him down, and began punching him. She reported her father was transported to the hospital for what appeared to be significant injuries. The male who attacked the father initially left the scene, but he dropped his identification.”

When the man returned, he was taken into custody. He was identified as 23-year-old Matthew Giacone. Mr. Giacone was arrested for felony aggravated assault. The victim is 57-years-old.
