Missoula Police Arrest Woman For Assaulting Her Daughter
On June 15, 2022, a Missoula Police Department officer was working a routine patrol shift when she heard a dispatch involving 35-year-old Randi Modin and Modin’s juvenile daughter, Jane Doe. Dispatch advised that a therapist reported seeing both parties, and at their appointment, Modin disclosed striking Doe. The therapist also relayed seeing that Doe had a black eye. Police Public Information Officer Lydia Arnold explains.
“Officers were contacted by a mandatory reporter regarding a physical injury they had observed on a juvenile,” Arnold said. “Officers collected an initial statement from the mandatory reporter. After the statement was collected, they went to the home where the incident had taken place and the juvenile lived with suspect Randi Modin.”
When officers arrived, they spoke with Modin who confirmed that she struck her daughter in the face. Modin stated the incident occurred on Friday June 10th, 2022.
“On scene, Modin was cooperative with officers and provided a statement to officers,” Arnold said. “Officers observed the juvenile and the injury to the juvenile. Based on the information and preliminary investigation by police, Modin was taken into custody on charges of assault on a minor. Additional agencies became involved to assist the juveniles in the home. This case is still under investigation with Missoula Police Department Detective Division.”
According to court documents, Modin stated she has been trying to keep space and use positive reinforcement, but she got upset. Modin also stated sometimes Doe needs a "big shock" in order to calm down.
Doe advised that during the incident Modin was accusing her of stealing something from her room. Doe said she had not done so, but Modin kept insisting she had. The argument escalated so Doe ran out of the apartment.
When she returned, the argument continued and that is when Modin pulled her close and punched her in the temple. Doe then showed the officer the right side of her face. When she did this, the officer observed that her right eyelid was black with bruising.
Modin was arrested and transported to the Missoula County Detention Center. She is currently being charged with felony assault on a minor.
