Missoula Police Arrest Man for Stabbing Someone With a Utility Knife
Just before 4:00 a.m. on Friday, someone called 911 and reported a disturbance in progress. The caller said two men were fighting on a second-floor balcony in the 600 block of East Broadway. Police Public Information Officer Travis Welsh explains.
“When the officers arrived, the encountered one of them men leaving the area,” Welsh said. “He was stopped and identified. He had a minor injury to the top of his head and said that he had been involved in a disturbance with another man in a second-floor room. The officers made contact with people from the room and determined that there was probable cause to arrest Matt for assault with a weapon.”
According to Welsh, the officers discovered that Matt tried to force his way into the room by cutting a screen on a window.
“When the male from inside the room came out and confronted Matt, the two got into a fight,” Welsh said. “Matt is said to have stabbed the other man with a utility knife of some kind. He attempted to leave as officers arrived. 49-year-old William Matt was transported to the detention center and was under arrest for assault with a weapon, which is a felony.”
According to the report, the victim suffered minor wounds that were not life threatening.
