Man Tries to Break Into His Ex Girlfriend's House

At around 3:45 Tuesday afternoon, Missoula Police officers were called to a report that a male was trying to break into a house in the 1700 block of South 13th Street West. While on the phone, the complainant indicated that a male broke down the door in an attempt to get to the male’s ex-girlfriend. Police Public Information Officer Travis Welsh explains.

“The first officer on scene observed the male suspect, identified as 30-year-old Logan Moore, abruptly leaving the residence and he actually took off running when the officer engaged him and ordered him to stop,” Welsh said. “While the officers were giving pursuit and setting up a perimeter to track down the male, another officer made contact with the persons in the residence.”

That officer noticed that the front door was completely destroyed during the break in.

“He spoke to the male friend who called 911,” Welsh said. “The male reported that at one point he was trying to keep Moore out and was shutting the door on him when Moore pushed the door back inside, which struck the male and knocked off his glasses. The male was eventually able to get Moore locked outside again as they requested police response.”

The female victim and the male reported that Moore then began to kick the door, which caused the male enough concern that he retrieved a shotgun. Moore continued to kick the door, eventually hitting the door with enough force that he broke the door open. Several jagged pieces of the door frame came loose and at least one piece had nails protruding from it.

Despite the male’s firearm, Moore entered the residence, grabbed the piece of door frame with nails protruding from it and threw it at the male. The object hit the male, cutting his hand in several places. The male ordered Moore to leave the home while pointing the shotgun at him and Moore eventually left.

“Logan Moore was actually located in the area,” Welsh said. “He was hiding in a shed in the backyard of a residence in the 1800 block of South 12^th Street West. He was taken into custody there, but soon began resisting officers when they attempted to complete the arrest process and place him in the back of the patrol car.”

While at the patrol car, Moore began to resist, wrapping his right leg around an officer’s leg. Moore then began to kick his feet at officers while screaming homosexual and racist slurs at them. He eventually had to be placed in a hobble.

After Moore’s arrest, the next-door neighbor to the male and female victim called MPD to report that his garage had been burglarized during the time of the incident. The neighbor indicated that his black iPod had been taken from his garage.

Officers spoke with Moore, who admitted he had gone to his ex-girlfriend’s residence and that the male friend had pointed a firearm at him. Moore said he felt “disrespected” at that point and he therefore acted “accordingly”. Officers also located a black iPod in the Moore’s possession.

Moore was charged with felony aggravated burglary, felony burglary, partner or family member assault second offense, criminal mischief, obstructing a peace officer, and resisting arrest.
