Man Allegedly Threatened to Kill His Father and Brother With a Knife
Just before 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, an adult male called 911 to report that his son had just held another son at knife point at his home in the 5300 block of Canyon River Road. Police Public Information Officer Travis Welsh explains.
“When the officers arrived, they discovered that the disturbance had been between a father and his two sons,” Welsh said. “One of the sons had gotten into a fight with his brother and threatened his father as well. The officers conducted their investigation and made contact with the suspect who was eventually identified as 42-year-old Ryan McCollum. Mr. McCollum was placed under arrest.”
According to the officer, McCollum had an overwhelming odor of an alcoholic beverage on his breath and bloodshot eyes. McCollum’s father reported that McCollum has issues with alcohol consumption as well as methamphetamine use, and had recently walked away from a treatment center and had been allowed to live on his property in a separate building.
McCollum’s father said McCollum retrieved a knife from the kitchen and threatened his son with it, telling his son “I’m going to kill you!” The son was able to escape to his vehicle and leave the property. McCollum’s father said McCollum also threatened to kill him. McCollum’s father and brother both reported being in immediate fear for their lives. Both reported believing McCollum was capable of stabbing and/or killing them.
McCollum was charged with two felony counts of assault with a weapon and misdemeanor criminal mischief.
