Missoula Gives Sets New Record of $1.2 Million in Just 26 Hours

Missoula, MT (KGVO-AM News) - Missoula and Bitterroot Gives wrapped up their fundraising efforts on Friday night and set a new record to benefit the 210 nonprofit organizations for the coming year.

I spoke with Marcy Allen, Executive Director of the Missoula Community Foundation on Saturday afternoon, just after the 26 hours of giving came to a close.

“In just 26 hours we raised $1.2 million for over 200 nonprofits this year, which was our largest group of nonprofits that we've had participate in the day,” began Allen. “One of our really big goals this year was to get over 4,000 donors which we've been sort of knocking on the door for multiple years for and this year we're right at like 4,100 donors.”

Allen named the nonprofits that collected the most funds over the 26 hour period.

The Glacier Ice Rink Received the most Donations This Year

“We had some really big winners this year,” she said. “I think that the Glacier Ice Rink came in first with the most donations this year. They had an incredible match and they're working to help do some facility upgrades that are much needed for them, and so they had a great day. I think the Missoula Food Bank and Community Center was up on the top as well as Missoula Youth Homes.”

Allen said one added benefit for this year’s Missoula and Bitterroot Gives was a special insert in the Missoulian newspaper.

The Missoulian Newspaper Helped out with a 'Giving Guide' Insert

“This year for the first time we did a giving guide that was published in the Missoulian (newspaper) as an insert,” she said. “It listed all the nonprofits by their main cause. It had a budget form, and I think that was really a great way to engage newcomers who are in the community. With 200-plus nonprofits, it’s sometimes overwhelming trying to find the thing that you care about. This was a great way for people to have a tangible asset to kind of plan how they were going to give.”
