Now This is How You Team Up to Catch Foolish Vandals in Montana!
It's known for its expansive beauty, rustic location and striking rock formations.
It includes more than six square miles of native grasses and fragrant sagebrush. And oh those spectacular starry nights. It's no wonder locals refer to this spot as a “hidden gem.”
A recent disturbance in this Montana treasure had many people up in arms. They joined forces via social media to offer an outpouring of tips that led to confessions of vandalism in the Strawberry Hill Recreation Area near Miles city. Did they paint the town red? No, painted the recreation orange is more like it.
The Bureau of Land Management Montana/Dakotas tells us that folks took to Facebook to report activity they thought could be linked to the crime. That included a suspicious pile of empty orange spray paint cans. From there, authorities quickly identified the culprits. Feeling the heat from Facebook commenters, the two suspects even attempted a late-night cleanup before turning themselves in. They’ve since been cited and fined, and Bureau of Land Management crews have restored the site.
Included in Montana's Trail to the Stars literature, Strawberry Hill offers only primitive camping. No dumpsters or facilities are available. No campfires or fireworks are allowed, as this particular area can be very susceptible to wildfires. Parking is available at the entrance or high-clearance, 4WD vehicles can follow a primitive road into the area.
BLM concluded their post saying, “THANK YOU to all who took the time to view the post, offer assistance, and express your concern for YOUR Public Lands. It made all the difference.”
