Summertime is here, baby.

We've seen a boatload of days in the 70s and 80s here in Western Montana. We've seen more and more people on the water, specifically checking out the new waterfront access down at Caras Park in downtown Missoula.

The announcement was made on Monday, June 16th.

In 2023, GTTSR opened up on June 13th, which was the earliest opening date since 2005, per KPAX

Last year, in 2024, GTTSR opened up on June 22nd.

This year's opening date was plopped in the middle.

Let's be fortunate that it's June 16th.

There was a stretch from 2020 to 2022 when GTTSR didn't open until mid-July due to an excessive avalanche season and the COVID pandemic.

LOOK: Stunning vintage photos capture the beauty of America's national parks

The land encompassing them was either purchased or donated, though much of it had been inhabited by native people for thousands of years before the founding of the United States. These areas are protected and revered as educational resources about the natural world, and as spaces for exploration.
