Just yesterday, the men's assistant coaches were mentioning how fortunate they were feeling that no games had been postponed this season.

That was yesterday at the Grizzly Basketball Coaches Show. Today is another chapter in  COVID chaos. It was announced Wednesday afternoon that the Montana Grizzly basketball game, scheduled for tomorrow (Thursday) evening in the Adams Center on the UM campus, has been postponed. The same is true for the Montana Lady Griz game scheduled at Southern Utah tomorrow evening.

The postponements are due to COVID-19 protocols within the Southern Utah Thunderbird programs. While it's the first cancellation of the year for the men's team, the Lady Griz have already been down this road once this season, having had their game at Montana State scheduled for January 9 rescheduled for Monday, January 24.

Mondays are starting to become a prevailing theme. That is where the Big Sky Conference is trying to place rescheduled games. And the Griz-Thunderbird games are no exception. Both of those games will now be played on Monday, February 7.

While it can create some large gaps in teams' schedules, which can be good or bad, it also creates logjams of games being played in tight windows. For example, the Lady Griz will play five games in the span of 9 days from January 20-29, three of which are on the road.

Of utmost importance to fans who have already purchased tickets for tomorrow night's Griz game: for those who cannot make the February 7 rescheduled date, tickets can be exchanged at equal or lesser value for any remaining home game. If you can make it on February 7, just hang onto your January 20 tickets.
