Five Bad Habits You Should Break and How
If one of your New Year’s resolutions is to break a nasty habit that drives you and others around you crazy, then I have some help for you. We all have little quirks we wish we could change about ourselves. Whether it be gum snapping, nail biting or just plain tardiness, there is something all of us can do to improve ourselves. Here is a little help with just a few bad habits.
Sleeping with your makeup on
This is one thing I do that I wish I didn’t. This is awful for your skin ladies, especially if you are worried about wrinkles. Sleeping with that makeup caked on your face increases wrinkles and can even cause acne flare ups. If you really don’t have time at night before you drop into bed and pass out, then you should keep prepackaged facial wipe cleansers on your nightstand and give your face a once over before nodding off.
Tardiness
This is another one of my bad habits. I don’t want to be late. It’s just that I like to sleep in and I have four kids to get ready in the morning, so I have a great excuse, right? Sadly, most employers don’t agree. Something about being a responsible adult makes it a bad excuse. The best way to cure this nasty little habit is to try to see yourself the way others see you. Do you want others to think of you as rude and disrespectful? Is your time worth more than their time is? Would you like it if you relied on someone and they were always late? It’s going to be hard, but you’re just going to have to give yourself an extra 10-15 minutes whenever you plan on going somewhere.
Interrupting
My boys need a little help with this one. They get so excited about something they want to tell me, or they just want to tell on each other for something. This usually happens when my husband and I are talking or I’m on the phone. The best way to break this is to do the opposite of talking, it’s to listen. Focus on listening to what the other person is saying and you will have an easier time not interrupting them.
Smacking your gum
I have a family member who is notorious for this. It is extremely annoying to those who have to listen to it. I’m sure gum smackers really enjoy this pastime, since they do it every time they cram a wad of gum in their mouth. Since this is such a fun habit, the best and easiest way to break it is to just not chew gum. Try a breath mint or a lozenge instead.
Talking too loud on you cellphone
Who hasn’t been in the grocery store, or pretty much anywhere, and heard someone’s conversation. This is very annoying or very interesting, depending on your perspective. However, their conversation is really no one’s business but their own. If you wouldn’t appreciate someone spewing your gossip while in line at the grocery store, then you should probably take any calls that you don’t want public information, in private. There is always texting too.
