With winter here this is a good question. What is the coldest temperature ever recorded in Montana?

There are some areas in Montana that deal not only with the wind but the chill as well. According to Montanakids.com, back in 1954 was when it got the coldest in the state. The frigid temperature was recorded at Rogers Pass near Helena, -70 degrees below zero at Rogers Pass on January 20, 1954.

They also stated "This is also a national record for the lower 48 states", although I am not sure if that is still true or not. Coolweather.net has an article for Montana records and temps, and it says  Montana's average Winter temperature is 21.3 F degrees, which is the 9th coldest U.S. winter state.
