Another Bear Spotted On UM Campus This Weekend – Celebrating Griz Win?
The University of Montana campus is no stranger to bear sightings by now; I saw one as I was leaving for work a while back, and I'm still not totally convinced that the bears aren't secretly plotting a full takeover of Missoula. So this news should come as no surprise: this past Sunday, a black bear was spotted around 3:45 AM on campus once again.
They say the bear was not acting in an aggressive manner and was mostly just digging through garbage cans for food; although, I have another theory why the bear was hanging out this time around.
It's obvious, isn't it? The bear was on campus to celebrate the Griz victory over Cal Poly at the Homecoming game on Saturday.
And why wouldn't he be? He was probably bummed he couldn't march in the homecoming parade since it was canceled, too.
And since the bear couldn't go join the festivities downtown on Saturday night after the Griz won (most bars have a strict anti-bear policy), it did the next best thing - dig through trash in the middle of the night on UM campus. Don't act like you haven't ended the night doing worse than that.
Will the bear make a reappearance following future Griz games? Only time will tell. Will UM campus have Monte leave out some Griz gear and concessions for the bear, like it's milk and cookies for Santa? I'm guessing...no, probably not.
As always, if you see a bear, don't approach it, and call 911 to allow Montana Fish, Wildlife, and Parks to come and deal with the situation.
