American Legion Parade in Philipsburg on the 4th of July
You gotta give Philipsburg, Montana, a lot of credit. A remote little town that has done a wonderful job of maintaining tourism awareness.
So, maybe you're looking at a long Independence Day weekend at Georgetown Lake? Or you just plan to do some exploring or do a scenic Montana drive while you enjoy a little extra time off? Yet, you'd like to get a little infusion of patriotism in there as well. Nestled between Drummond on Interstate 90 and Anaconda on Montana Highway 1, just down the hill from the lake, Philipsburg is a fun oasis on the gorgeous Pinter Scenic Byway.
Our thanks to Gerald Christensen, who messaged us and asked if we would mention the American Legion Post 124 and 125 will be hosting the 4th of July parade in Philipsburg. The parade gets underway at 11:00 a.m., starting at the Yamaha ATV dealership. Gerald also wanted us to mention that civic and commercial groups are encouraged to participate with floats and/or patriotic decorated vehicles. If you'd like to get more details on that, you can email Gerry, akgerald@aol.com.
Before or after the parade, besides finding a good place to eat, maybe check out the bling at the Sapphire Gallery. Or make a few selections from the approximately umpteen bazillion confection choices at the Sweet Palace Candy Shop.
There are lots of great little Montana towns where you can take in the spirit of Independence Day, and we definitely think Philipsburg is one of them. If you're coming from Missoula, you'll have plenty of time to get back for the free professional fireworks show at Southgate Mall starting at 10:30 that evening.
