Missoula’s 18th Annual Never Forget Service will take place Wednesday, September 11 at 7:00 p.m. in front of the Vietnam Memorial. A total of 7,000 tiny American flags will be placed to represent the 2,977 men, women, and children that died on that tragic day in 2001. Susan Campbell Reneau says the flags will also represent the thousands of Americans that have died since that date.

“For years, there were firefighters and responders that went to New York to try to sift through the pile at the Twin Towers,” Reneau said. “They developed illnesses. Those people have developed such horrific cancers that they have died. Many of them have died.”

The Missoula Exchange Club donated the flags. They will be placed in the ground at 6:00 p.m. at Rose Memorial Garden and Reneau encourages community participation. Celtic Dragon Pipe Band bagpipers will lead the honor and color guard lineup.

“We will meet at 6:45 p.m. at the Korean War Memorial,” Reneau said. “We will have the American Legion Post 27 Color Guard, the VFW Post 209 Honor Guard, the University of Montana ROTC Color Guard, the Missoula Civil Air Patrol, the United States of Hope, and many more.”

Reneau says field representatives will read letters from U.S. Senators Jon Tester and Steve Daines and U.S. Representative Greg Gainforte.
