What Are Some Good White Elephant Gift Ideas?
Everybody loves a good gag gift. If you ask me, the white elephant gift exchange makes for more fun during the holiday gatherings than opening regular gifts. It's just a solid 30 or 45 minutes of fun and laughs and you can't predict which direction it will go.
I assume we're all in the know when it comes to what white elephant is all about. If not, here's a little backstory from Wikipedia:
"A white elephant gift exchange is a party game where amusing and impractical gifts are exchanged during festivities. The goal of a white elephant gift exchange is to entertain party-goers rather than to gain a genuinely valuable or highly sought-after item.
The term white elephant refers to an extravagant, impractical gift that cannot be easily disposed of. The phrase is said to come from the historic practice of the King of Siam (now Thailand) giving rare albino elephants to courtiers who had displeased him, so that they might be ruined by the animals' upkeep costs"
The big bummer is that we won't be traveling to see family for Christmas so I'm not really in need of a gift idea this year. But I'm sure plenty of people are - and they need some ideas.
Last year I crushed it! I ordered the world's largest gummy worm. It was a majestic piece - three pounds and 4,000 calories of gigantic gummy goodness. I only showed one person in advance, my sister, what I was contributing to the white elephant exchange. She proceeded to shake her head and tell me she didn't understand why I would waste $30 on such a worthless item. But it ended up being the highlight of the party. Not everybody wanted to win it........but they sure wanted to hold it and take a picture with it. In the end my sister had to eat her words and admit that she was wrong - and that was more important than any gift I could have ever received from Santa.
The only downfall would be the innuendo jokes that can be made about my picture with the giant gummy worm. But that's a small price to pay.
