Ahhh, love is in the air! Among other odors if this is your idea of a Valentine's Day date. New York City's Department of Environmental Protection is again offering Valentine's Day tours of the Newtown Creek sewage treatment plant in Brooklyn. And this year (not making this up) the are offering three tours instead of two, because of "overwhelming demand." According to Associated Press, highlights include the plant's digesters, which break down noxious waste into harmless sludge and gas. Last year's tour guide warned that a digester was about to emit a foul order. It didn't disappoint. The J. Geils Band song "Love Stinks" is stuck in my head. DB
