College classes don't have to be boring calculus, chemistry or the history of Agrarian laws. You can have fun at school and learn a thing or two simultaneously. This is evident in the University of Montana's summer class which allows students to explore the great outdoors via horseback.

UM's Wilderness Pack Trip Course

Per the UM News Service, the Wilderness Pack Trip allows students to camp in the Bob Marshall Wilderness Complex for a couple of weeks. The course is hosted by political science instructor Dr. Eva-Maria Maggi, but it's open to any student.

"It's a pretty unique experience. There's nothing like it in the United States, where you can earn college credits on a pack trip," Maggi told the UM News Service. The course description states it gives students two credits for 5 days (it was June 24-28, so I'm sorry but you missed it this year) and teaches you "Wilderness policy in practice by meeting with Forest Service rangers, building trail and learning how to apply the leave-no-trace principles while traveling in the backcountry with horses and mules."

What a great class that gets you out of the classroom and into the real world. Instead of burying yourself in a book, Dr. Maggi gives you hands-on experience in rugged outdoor lessons. If I were still in school, I would race to sign up for next year's class at the earliest convenience.

It also sparked my intrigue about other interesting or bizarre college classes. Here's a short Reddit thread of some of the most ridiculous college courses.

  • "My dad took 3 years of billiards at IU. The final exam was a tournament. If you lost first, you received a bad grade." -Totallynoti
  • "Intro to windows 8. Friday I learned how to rename a file." - Unknown
  • "My university has a PE course on bridge, the card game. It's funny that that course requires a PE uniform, while some courses like basketball don't." -blazingarpeggio
  • "Walking. It's online." - GooGooGajoob67

I would have spent a lot of money to take a billiards class instead of Creative Writing 101.
