Two Reminders For Western Montana Hunters
A-hunting you will go! Well, a lot of you hunters, anyway, as the Montana general big game season kicks off this weekend.
And while these reminders don't apply to all of you hunters, when Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks asks us to help spread the word, we do our best to oblige. So, here's a couple notes they wanted to share.
The FWP Commission adopted a change last week that will close all elk hunting in HD 214 - mostly in Granite County - at the end of the general season on Sunday, December 1. In other words, no shoulder season as originally planned and announced. The Commission was concerned that the elk population in a portion of the district did not need additional harvest pressure. It's best to check with FWP in the event you were counting on a shoulder season in that area.
And - do we really need to mention this? Okay. Montana FWP and the Missoula City Council have issued a reminder that rifle or archery hunting is not allowed on city-owned conservation lands on Mount Jumbo. Hunters can hike across the lands to access other areas, but they recommend keeping your firearms shouldered or stored for safety, and to demonstrate you are not actively hunting.
Whatever your hunting plans are this weekend, here's wishing you success!
