TMHT: Get Hooked on Kokanee at Humane Society of Western Montana
There's an adorable school of puppies just waiting for you to take the bait.
It was another Take Me Home Tuesday at the radio stations with the Humane Society of Western Montana, sponsored by Paul's Pancake Parlor of Missoula. And because it's never a bad day to pet a puppy, Katie introduced us to Kokanee, one of 6 siblings at the shelter, all named after fish. Apparently Kokanee got into a tackle box when she was an itty bitty gal and had to have a fish hook removed from her lip, and that started the naming process.
Kokanee is an 8-week-old mixed breed pup. The shelter is unsure of her breed mix, as some of her siblings are brown and fluffy and Kokanee has shorter black hair with white markings. But they suspect the puppies will be medium to large dogs. They came to Missoula by way of a veterinary outreach in Rocky Boy. Be sure to check out all the adorable love waiting for their forever homes.
ANIMAL LOVERS: DON'T MISS THE SUMMIT!
In rural areas like Montana, some of the most challenging animal welfare issues exist in places you don’t go, with animals you don’t see in a shelter or rescue. The lack of access to veterinary care, combined with increasing cost of care can leave pets and owners in challenging circumstances.
The Humane Society of Western Montana is hosting the inaugural Mountain Animal Welfare Summit at the University of Montana Wednesday-Friday, June 11-13. Open to the public, the Summit will feature five thorough tracks, including Investigating Animal Cruelty and Access to Care for Native Areas.
Whether you’re from a municipal shelter, nonprofit rescue, brick-and-mortar facility, foster-based organization, or you just care about the well-being of animals and want to find out how you can be of help, this summit is designed with something for everyone.
For specific courses, registration and more details, visit the Humane Society website's home page.
