Carrie Underwood and Trisha Yearwood performed at the 2019 Kennedy Center Honors in tribute to music legend Linda Ronstadt, but another country star also had a big role in the annual ceremony. Thomas Rhett shared an original song in honor of another of 2019's honorees, the classic children's television show Sesame Street.

Rhett's performance received a whimsical introduction from actor Lucy Liu and Elmo. "Elmo, I have a good idea ... Why don't we introduce the next guest together?" Liu suggested, with Elmo replying, "Oh! Yeah, Ms. Lucy! We can co-op-er-ate."

"Yes, just like on Sesame Street," Liu added.

After his arrival onstage, Rhett also chatted with Elmo for a bit, too. "I've been on a lot of roads touring and playing music. But there is no street quite like Sesame Street," he said, before inviting Elmo and the rest of his buddies to join him for "This Is My Street."

By the end of Rhett's performance, Big Bird, Grover, Bert, Ernie and many other Sesame Street characters were onstage with the country star. The whole cast, Rhett, Liu and more performed the classic "Sing a Song" together as well.

In addition to Sesame Street and Ronstadt, 2019's Kennedy Center honorees are actor Sally Field, R&B/soul/funk group Earth, Wind & Fire and conductor Michael Tilson Thomas.
