Avid fisherman, this is agreat way to find up-to-date information about the Chinook run. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is turning to Facebook and Twitter to educate the public about Northwest salmon. Sammie the Salmon will tweet and offer regular updates to follow the progress of spring Chinook released near the Canadian border to the Pacific Ocean. The fish have been raised in the Winthrop National Fish Hatchery. Sammie isn't a real fish, just a fictional representation of the fish that pass nine dams and countless other obstacles in their 600-mile journey. The agency says the intent of the eight-week social media project is to provide entertaining and informational messages regarding a key Northwest species.
