As the winter approaches, Missoula's gonna be losing its outdoor moviegoing options. Centerfield Cinema at Ogren Park is winding down at the end of October, and so is The Roxy Garden behind the still-closed Roxy Theater. Both AMC Theaters in Missoula are still open, and apparently don't plan on closing even though very few new movies are coming out, but for people looking for socially-distant moviegoing options, the choices are really going to dwindle until it starts to get warm again.

Which is why it's not a surprise - though it is a bummer - to find that the Pharaohplex Drive-In in Hamilton has officially closed down for the season. I've been there a couple of times this summer, to see new releases like Tenet and The Broken Hearts Gallery, and older films like Ghostbusters and Hocus Pocus. They've also hosted a few drive-in concerts from artists like Garth Brooks, Blake Shelton, and Metallica.

The development of the drive-in was a great idea in the time of COVID, and launched back in June, giving the Pharaohplex a solid few months of business and a good alternative for people not ready to head back to the theater. Their indoor theater is still open and is playing a mix of new and old releases.

Hopefully we'll get to see the drive-in come back next year. A few people in the Facebook comments of their closure announcement seem like they wish it would stay open for a little while longer, but with the cold weather coming in, it's definitely going to get harder. However, the Pharaohplex does note that they may do special events at the drive-in or rentals for special events, so make sure to follow their social media and see if anything pops up.

Did you head to the Pharaohplex Drive-In at all this summer? What did you see?
