Another recognizable company has announced it will be closing it's remaining U.S. stores.

Payless ShoeSource will close all of its stores in the U.S. and Puerto Rico - 2,100 stores in all.

Sales have been affected by online retailers and discount stores.

Stores will begin liquidation sales and the company will wind down its online sales.

All stores will remain open until the end of March.  Many of them will remain open until May.

The company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in April 2017.  At the time they closed hundreds of stores.  At the time of filing Payless ShoeSource had over 4,400 stores in more than 30 countries.

Payless was founded in 1956 by cousins Louis and Shaol Lee Pozez.  Their mission was to offer affordable footwear.

The only Payless ShoeSource in Missoula is the one inside Shopko at 2510 South Reserve St.
