The camas are starting to bloom. If you really want to see a spectacular display head up to Lolo Pass in the next several days.

The camas blankets Packer Meadows at Lolo Pass with a carpet of purple flowers. Packer Meadows is on a Forest Service road that leads back into the wood from the Visitor Center. It’s a very good road and easy to navigate, any car can make it.

This blooming season doesn’t last very long, maybe thee to five days it will be at its peak. Normally this happens in June but the heavy snowpack set everything back but about three weeks.

While you’re up at Lolo Pass make sure you stop in at the Visitor Center. It is filled with displays about the area, the journeys of the Corps of Discovery, and how Lolo Pass was a major route for the Nez Perce to get to buffalo country to the East.
