Overnight Standoff with Deputies near Florence Ends Peacefully
Missoula County Sheriff’s deputies, assisted by units from Kalispell, apprehended a suspect near Florence without incident after an overnight standoff.
Public Information Officer Jeannette Smith provides details of the incident.
“Just after 11:00 p.m. Saturday, Missoula County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a disturbance at a residence in the 21000 block of Old U.S. Highway 93 in Florence,” began Smith. “A female in the home was being threatened with a weapon by a male and described him as being under the influence of drugs. She then fled from the home to a nearby neighbor where she contacted 9-1-1.”
Smith described what happened after deputies arrived on the scene.
“Once the deputies arrived, they spoke to the woman and removed her to a safe location, then notified surrounding residents and secured the area,” she said. “The male suspect boarded himself inside the residence. Throughout the night and into the early morning hours, the deputies made several attempts to make contact with the man and negotiate his surrender. The Missoula County Response Team, assisted by the Kalispell unit, apprehended the suspect without incident at about 7:25 on Sunday morning.”
Smith said the suspect was taken into custody and transported to the Missoula County Jail. His identity and the actual charges have not yet been released.
