Netflix Buying Warner Bros. How It Could Hurt Missoula Theaters
The major news from Hollywood is that Netflix is acquiring Warner Bros. for a whopping $82.7 billion. Co-CEO of Netflix Greg Peters said, "This acquisition will improve our offering and accelerate our business for decades to come," in a press release. The purchase is intended to get more movies on Netflix and stream faster than usual.
And I, for one, hate it with the passion of a thousand suns.
It's becoming more and more popular to stream movies at home instead of going to the movie theater. I understand it, but I dislike it. I'd much rather catch a new flick at a movie theater on the big screen, the way directors intend it. My girlfriend and I still watch movies at home, but we go to the theaters at least once a week.
If you have a family of four, it's expensive to take all of them to the theaters. I get it, but don't completely give up on your local theaters. The Roxy offers great memberships for you and your family. Plus, the Roxy shows old school films like Star Wars or Casino, so even if you're a nostalgic film fan and don't care for new movies, you can still check out the Roxy.
