My Pics From Two Awesome Montana Tourist Attractions This Weekend
It's kind of sad that the only time my family really gets out to see the sights of Montana is when we have visitors from out of state come to stay. So thank goodness we have plenty of visitors that head our way! I know, we're kind of lame when it comes to getting out and exploring on our own. But in my defense - one of our daughters was only a month old when we moved to town. That's not exactly the prime age for setting out on adventures with kids in tow. The next summer she was just turning one, and road trips were still quite an undertaking. And then we follow it up with the cluster that the summer of 2020 turned into last year. So this is really the first year we've felt like the training wheels were off and packing up for a day trip was more of a doable option.
We've had friends in town for the last week and we spent the last couple of days trying a couple new things for entertainment. Someone here at work did the Gates of the Mountains boat tour over in Helena about a month ago and said they would recommend it. So we split our weekend by land and by sea....or by river to be exact. We did the boat tour on Saturday and set out to discover the Garnet Ghost Town on Sunday. Thankfully, the ghost town reopened early last week after being closed a bit for fire precautions.
The boat tour was pretty cool. It was informative and some of the scenery was amazing. The only downfalls were the two-hour drives each way and having to sit in the enclosed portion of the boat. If you take the tour, be sure to get in line early so you can sit on the uncovered portion. It's not as hot and the views are much better. The captain had a few good jokes to go along with his stories of Lewis and Clark exploring the same waters that we were traveling.
Garnet Ghost Town was fun. It's just over an hour from Missoula and it's pretty crazy to look through the old buildings and imagine how different it would have been back when the town was booming. It is a bit of a trek on a gravel road to get there - but not that difficult.....at least in the summertime.
I hope you enjoy a few of these pictures that I took from the weekend! Where should I venture to next?
