MSU Graduation Ceremonies Will Be May 13

Friday the 13th is not a day to be feared this month. Instead, it will be a lucky day for students at Montana State University. That's MSU's commencement day at the Bozeman campus.

Ceremonies will be at 9 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. as over 2,600 students will get degrees. Drilling down into the numbers - 1,813 undergraduate degrees, 337 master's degrees and 103 doctoral degrees. The MSU Office of the Registrar said that Gallatin College MSU graduates are also included, with 182 associate degrees.

The Brick Breeden Fieldhouse will be the center of activity, with the 9 a.m. ceremony for students from the College of Arts and Architecture, Jake Jabs College of Business and Entrepreneurship, Mark and Robyn Jones College of Nursing, and College of Letters and Science. The procession will start at 8:40 a.m.

The afternoon ceremony at 1:30 p.m. (procession starts at 1:10 p.m.) will include students from the College of Agriculture, Norm Asbjornson College of Engineering, College of Education, Health and Human Development, and Gallatin College MSU.

MSU President Waded Cruzado will present President's Medallions at the morning ceremony. Ellen Kreighbaum and Kathleen Chafey will be honored. An honorary doctorate will be presented to Judge Sidney Thomas of the U.S. 9th Circuit Court of Appeals.

Then, in the afternoon session, journalist Charles S. "Chuck" Johnson will receive an honorary doctorate of humane letters. This is the 136th time that MSU has had commencement ceremonies.
