At around 1:30 a.m. Saturday, Missoula police officers responded to the report of a physical disturbance between a male and a female in the 4100 block of Yorkshire Place. When officers arrived, they encountered a female who said the male had already left the scene. Police Public Information Officer Travis Welsh explains.

“The complainant was the victim’s mother who had overheard some of the disturbance on the phone and was concerned that the incident had gotten physical,” Welsh said. “When the officers made contact with the victim female, they observed that she had surface injuries that were consistent with her report.”

According to Welsh, the female gave a statement to the officers at the scene.

“Her boyfriend physically put his hand on her throat more than once,” Welsh said. “In one of those occurrences, he had actually restricted her ability to breath normally. He also slapped her in the face and punched a headboard in the victim’s bedroom before leaving the scene.”

The suspect was eventually located at his residence in the 300 block of Tremont Street. Officers identified 26-year-old Andrew Lupo and took him into custody. He is currently being held for one count of felony strangulation and one count of misdemeanor assault.
